A Woodland Police Department sergeant charged with drunken driving will spend the next three years on probation following a plea agreement in the case this week in Yolo Superior Court.
Defense attorney Christopher Miller entered a no-contest plea to a misdemeanor DUI charge Wednesday on behalf of his client, 52-year-old Steven Edward Sexton, according to Yolo County Chief Deputy District Attorney Jonathan Raven.
Sexton also admitted to an enhancement alleging he had a blood-alcohol content of .15 or higher, Raven said. In addition to receiving probation, Sexton was ordered to attend a nine-month alcohol education course, serve six days in a Sheriff’s Department work program and pay a $3,054 fine.
Miller could not be reached for comment Thursday.
California Highway Patrol officers arrested Sexton in Woodland on March 7 after another motorist reported seeing the off-duty sergeant lose his balance and fall over on his motorcycle near County Roads 27 and 99.
Sexton, a 25-year veteran of the Woodland Police Department, was placed on administrative leave from his job following his arrest but has since returned to work.
