Police arrest local man for sexual battery

By February 13, 2011

If it was an attempt to woo the ladies, it backfired miserably.

Davis police say a local man followed three women while making crude remarks, then sexually battered one of them before being arrested early Friday morning.

Mark Julian Cerati, 25, encountered the trio at about 1:40 a.m. as they were walking underneath the Richards Boulevard underpass. Cerati lamented about a recent breakup and allegedly made sexual comments to the women as he followed them on his bicycle, according to police reports.

“He said they looked like prostitutes,” Sgt. John Wilson said.

The women tried to elude Cerati in the parking lot of In-N-Out Burger, but Cerati allegedly reached under one woman’s skirt and grabbed her buttocks, Wilson said. Police were called, and Cerati was arrested at 1027 Olive Drive after crashing his bike.

He was lodged at the Yolo County Jail on suspicion of sexual battery, battery and public intoxication, Wilson said.
