Davis police believe a robber may be targeting homeless victims near the local train station.
Lt. Paul Doroshov said a 54-year-old local transient approached a Davis bicycle officer Saturday and reported being robbed at about 10:30 p.m. Thursday on the east side of the Amtrak station. He said a suspect punched him in the face, then stole money out of his pocket.
Doroshov said the victim suffered a bruised eye and other injuries to his face. The robber was described as a white male in his 20s, about 5-foot-11 to 6 feet tall and 170 pounds.
His description matches that of the suspect in another robbery that occurred April 29 but was not reported until last Thursday.
In that incident, the 64-year-old victim said he was walking along the railroad tracks between the Amtrak station and Mace Boulevard when the suspect punched him several times in the face, knocked him to the ground and kicked him in the stomach before stealing his backpack and jacket.
The victim reported the incident after seeking treatment for injuries at Woodland Memorial Hospital.
“It looks like this guy is preying on homeless people around the railroad tracks area,” Doroshov said. Anyone with information about either incident is asked to contact the Davis Police Department at (530) 747-5400.
