To commemorate the 40th anniversary of the coup d’etat in Chile, the UC Davis Hemispheric Institute on the Americas and the Chilean Students Association will present two documentary films this week at UCD. Both films will begin at 5:10 p.m. in Room 1113 of the Social Sciences & Humanities Building. Admission is free.
“The Battle of Chile: The Coup d’Etat” will be shown Wednesday and “Estadio Nacional/National Stadium” will screen Thursday. The first is a 1976 film directed by Patricio Guzman, which traces the conflict between March and September 1973. The second focuses on the national soccer stadium in Santiago, Chile, which was converted into the country’s largest detention center in the days immediately following the coup.
