Reading series features local poets

By May 12, 2011

The Other Voice, a poetry reading series, will present local poets Jill Stengel and Trudi Lee Richards at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 20, at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Davis, 27074 Patwin Road.

Stengel’s press (http://www.durationpress.com/abend) and her own poetry highlight the chapbook form, working mostly with serial poems. Four of her chapbooks can be viewed online at http://www.dusie.org. She has taught poetry and book arts at various levels, and publishes “mem,” a journal of writing by poets who are mothering young children.

Richards’ published works include “Experiences on the Threshold,” a collection of personal testimonials about meaningful living and dying, and “Soft Brushes with Death,” stories and poems about her late husband’s experiences escaping torture and execution in Argentina in the 1970s.

Refreshments and an open mike will follow the reading.
