Get ready to rock at this month’s Second Friday ArtAbout.

In addition to art exhibits and receptions at 25 venues around Davis on Friday night, two music concerts will be presented in E Street Plaza. All events are free.

Youngsters in the Rock Band Camp will perform from 5 to 5:30 p.m. The camp, organized by the city of Davis and RockBand University, is dedicated to teaching young musicians how to play together in a band in a week’s time. For more about the camp, visit www.rockbanduniversity.com.

“This week, musicians ages 10 through 14 will deliver some hard rocking covers to get the E Street crowd headbanging,” organizers said. “Come join us for some loud, live, good old rock ‘n’ roll.”

Next in the plaza is Winters-based singer/songwriter Belle Francisco performing from 7:30 to 9 p.m. Francisco plays guitar and writes original folk, acoustic rock and progressive music. “She continues to build a buzz surrounding her warm and expressive ability to touch her audience,” a news release said.

More live music, DJs and/or other special events are planned at the following art venues: Armadillo Music, Davis Art Center, Davis Odd Fellows Hall, Delta of Venus, E Street Plaza, First Street Real Estate, French Cuff Consignment, Kwan’s Framing, Open Door Art Studios and Ray Johnston Photography Studio.

The Second Friday ArtAbout is a monthly evening of art viewing and artists’ receptions at galleries and businesses in downtown Davis and beyond. The series is coordinated by Davis Downtown, formerly called the Davis Downtown Business Association. Many venues offer complimentary refreshments and opportunities to converse with featured artists. For more information about Davis Downtown and the ArtAbout, visit www.davisdowntown.com or email [email protected]

There are two new venues this month, Kwan’s Framing and Spa Central. Kwan’s Framing will have children’s book illustrator Julia Cairns signing her new book, “A Full Moon is Rising” featuring poems by Marilyn Singer and illustrations by Cairns. The shop also will present live fiddle music by the artist’s daughter, Robin. Spa Central will show new works by Jules Hays Norton and offer special discounts for Second Friday ArtAbout. Also, Edward Jones Investments will be collecting school supplies for the Davis Bridge Foundation to give to junior high students in need.

A poetry presentation also is planned. “Odd Poetry” will run from 6 to 8 p.m. in the tree shade in front of the Odd Fellows Hall, 415 Second St. “Listen to live performances of a wide range of poems, from the brand-new to the classic, and from the guffaw-inducing to those deeply moving,” a news release said. An open mic will follow.
