RootStock hosts olive oil tasting

By May 2, 2011

Eight local producers of extra virgin olive oil will conduct an olive oil tasting and education session from 3 to 6 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at RootStock Specialty Gifts and Tasting Room, 22 Main St. in Winters.

Producers from Bear Flag Farm, Copper Hill, Frate Sole, Hillstone Olive Oil, Quinta do Sol, Route 3, Taber Ranch and Yolo Press will be on hand to offer tastes of their oils and answers questions like, “What is extra virgin?” “What does cold-pressed mean?” “How long can olive oil be stored?” “What are the health benefits of using olive oil?”

Many of these producers have received statewide awards and accolades for their oils.

Since its opening last August, RootStock has offered tastings and purchase of many of these high-quality olive oil brands. The event is aimed at increasing awareness and apprecation of the uses and benefits of locally grown and produced olive oil.
