Tickets are still available for the annual Rotary Barbecue, which runs from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Saturday in Central Park, Fourth and C streets. The event is organized by and benefits all three Davis Rotary clubs — Sunrise, Noon and Sunset.
Guests will enjoy a tasty meal of barbecued turkey and tri-tip, baked beans, salad and rolls. Beer, wine, soda and water will be available for an additional charge.
Back for the second year is a pie-baking contest, open to youths and adults alike. Entries will be judged in five categories — fruit, nut, dairy, youth (17 and under) and professional. The pies will be evaluated on appearance, crust and taste, and the winners in each category will be showcased on the menu of a local restaurant for a month.
Prizes will be awarded at 6 p.m. and bakers must be present.
Bakers must bring two pies. Slices of the judged pies will be sold at the barbecue, beginning at 4:30 p.m., and the second pies will be put up for bids in a silent auction. All proceeds will benefit Rotary’s charitable projects.
To enter the contest, download an application at www.davisrotarybbq.com or pick one up at First Northern Bank, 434 Second St. in downtown Davis.
Also planned are live music, a children’s carnival and bounce houses, and a silent auction. Winning tickets in the charitable raffle, which benefits dozens of youth groups in Davis, also will be drawn. The raffle typically raises $70,000 to $80,000 annually for local groups.
Tickets are $20 for adults and $10 for children ages 5-12; kids under 5 are free. Tickets are available from any Rotarian or at the event.
