Raise a stein and celebrate Oktoberfest on Saturday, Oct. 1, with the Davis Sunrise Rotary Club. Proceeds will benefit the new Yolo County Mental Health Task Force, a collaborative focused on improving the county’s youth resources, and Camp Kesem UC Davis, a student-run summer camp for kids with parents diagnosed with cancer.
The morning Rotary Club’s annual fundraiser for community nonprofits will take place from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Oct. 1 under the Farmers Market pavilion in Central Park, Fourth and C streets. The event features German sausage and other hearty Oktoberfest foods, Pilsner and Märzen beer from Sudwerk Brewery, root beer and other nonalcoholic drinks, live polka music and a stein-raising contest.
This year’s proceeds will support a new venture, Yolo Children’s Mental Health Task Force. This multi-agency, multidisciplinary effort is providing developmental and social emotional health services to at-risk children and their families, caregivers and providers.
The task force is pre-screening all children in Yolo County up to the age of 5. Children identified as being at risk will receive counseling, tutoring and other appropriate resources.
The other recipient, Camp Kesem UC Davis, is chapter of a national program that provides children whose parents have or have had cancer with a summer camp experience that gives them a chance to be kids. It also allows college students to channel their passion for making a difference, while developing critical leadership skills for long-term social impact.
Tickets cost $20. To purchase one, visit www.davisoktober.eventbright.com. Guests can choose to support one or both of the fundraising beneficiaries.
