Logos Books presents the fourth year of the Quinton Duval Poetry Series, and invites local residents to attend the next reading on Thursday, which features Sacramento poets Al Garcia and Heather Hutcheson.

Poetry readings begin promptly at 7:30 p.m. and are followed by the opportunity to mingle with the poets, purchase chap books and enjoy light refreshments. Logos Books is at 513 Second St. in downtown Davis.

Garcia has published two books of poems, “Rainshadow” (Copper Beech Press) and “Skunk Talk” (Bear Star Press), as well as “Digging In: Literature for Developing Writers” (Prentice Hall). His individual poems have appeared in many journals, including Prairie Schooner, Mid-American Review, North American Review, Yankee, Poetry East and Willow Springs.

His work also has appeared in Ted Kooser’s “American Life in Poetry” and has been read by Garrison Keillor in “The Writer’s Almanac.”

A native of Northern California, Garcia grew up on a walnut orchard near Red Bluff. He lives in the rural community of Wilton and serves as dean of the Language and Literature Division at Sacramento City College.

Hutcheson is a professor of English at Cosumnes River College in Sacramento where she is a founding editor of the campus literary journal, the Cosumnes River Journal, co-hosts a literary reading series, and organizes an annual senior and student memoir conference, Our Life Stories, each spring.

Hutcheson spends the majority of her time outside of the classroom working to promote the arts and literacy in Sacramento: She has been an arts commissioner since 2008, convenes an annual community service and philanthropy event and is the co-president of the Colonial Heights Friends of the Library.

Her poems are inspired by, among other things, her travels to Oaxaca, Mexico, and her commitment to learning (and teaching) language.
