School board to meet Monday at 4 p.m. to appoint new trustee

By From page A4 | May 04, 2014

The Davis school board will meet at 4 p.m. Monday to select one of three finalists for the open seat on the board. The vacancy was created by the abrupt resignation in March of trustee Nancy Peterson.

The meeting will be in the Community Chambers at City Hall, 23 Russell Blvd., and will begin with short presentations by the finalists — Madhavi Sunder, Alan Fernandes and Barbara Archer.

After hearing the presentations, board members may ask some questions, then they’ll vote on their choice for appointment. A three-vote majority will be needed.

In the event of a tie, the voting process could go on to second and third ballots, but if a deadlock continues, there is a provision for a coin toss to reach a determination.

Once selected, the new appointee will be sworn in before the meeting ends and will serve until November, when a special election will be held to fill the two remaining years of Peterson’s term.
