The Davis school district will be seeking to fill six administrative positions during the spring hiring season, which is currently underway.

The open positions are:

* Davis High School athletic director

* Emerson Junior High School principal

* Harper Junior High School principal

* King High School principal

* Davis High School vice principal

* Birch Lane Elementary School principal

At Birch Lane, Kathy Tyzzer, who became principal in 2003, announced earlier this month that she plans to retire. At Harper, Zena Ingles, who has served as principal since 2008, decided in mid-March to retire. At Emerson, Alicia Cummings, who has been principal for the past four years, announced that she will step down to pursue different career opportunities as an educator. At DHS, athletic director Dennis Foster told his staff that he plans to step down at the end of the academic year, and at King High, principal Jeff Rogers made a similar announcement. The school district is also seeking to hire a vice principal at DHS (where there are three vice principal positions).

Assistant Superintendent Matt Best said, “the Davis school district thanks our departing administrators for their service to our district, students and community. We are looking forward to hiring top-notch leaders” for the open posts.

Spring is traditionally the season during which administrators (and teachers) announce their plans to move on. This year, the Davis school district offered a retirement incentive, and Best indicated that 31 certificated employees — teachers and administrators — had filed for the retirement incentive as of Friday afternoon. The retirement incentive is essentially cost-neutral for the school district, since the new employees who are hired to replace retiring employees enter the district’s payroll at a lower salary than the departing retirees.
