Holmes music assembly spotlights hundreds of student musicians

By From page A6 | October 15, 2013

Saxophonist Kyla Leacox and other members of the sax section perform a stirring arrangement of Edvard Grieg’s “In The Hall of the Mountain King” during a music assembly Thursday at Holmes Junior High School. Student musicians entertained their classmates — and illustrated the robust breadth of the music program at their school — during two assemblies.

The school band, led by teacher Clyde Quick; jazz band, also led by Quick; chorus, led by teacher Bill Zinn; and orchestra, led by teacher Angelo Moreno; took turns performing.

And since those ensembles, taken together, represent 200-some students at Holmes, the concert was held in the school gym, because the stage in the school’s multipurpose room was too small to accommodate so many performers simultaneously.
