Everybody Dance Now!, the second annual Davis High School Jazz Choir dance competition, is planned for 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at the Brunelle Performance Hall at DHS, 315 W. 14th St.
Modeled after television shows like “So You Think You Can Dance” and “American Idol,” this one-night dance competition is open to all Davis Joint Unified School District seventh- through 12th-grade students.
Ten dance acts (solo or duet) will have the chance to win one of two cash prizes ($150 or $75). The grand prize winner will be chosen by a panel of three judges with backgrounds in dance, and audience members will cast their votes for the People’s Choice winner.
Participants also will learn and perform a group dance that will be taught by Cara Rains, the choreographer for the DHS Jazz Choir.
The DHS Jazz Choir will be making its first appearance of the year. Guest dancers include Fiesta DanceN’ Fitness, the DHS Dance Team and 2010 winner Ryan Uota.
The event benefits the DHS Jazz Choir and its April trip to the French Quarter Festival in New Orleans with the DHS Jazz Band.
Advance tickets — $8 general and $5 for students — are available at Watermelon Music, 207 E St. in downtown Davis, and online at www.dhsjazzchoir.org.
Remaining tickets will be sold at the door ($10 for all ages). For more information, email email@example.com.
