We know a number of kids who list Davis addresses with the school district but live in West Sacramento or not in Davis. Presumably they just never get caught. The school district also never pushes out kids who are out of district but have been at the school, to make way for kids who are in Davis but can’t get into their neighborhood school. That seems grossly unfair.

“There are always some families that leave town over the summer, without informing the school that their children will not be coming back in the fall.” We were one of those families. At that time, there was not a procedure in place to inform the school. When we contacted the district, we were informed that they do not handle enrollment, rather that we should contact the individual school…which was closed for the summer and would not be re-opened until August 10.

DJUSD reported about 8,500 students enrolled for 2010-11. This is a rather significant jump in enrollment, 8,500 up to 8,700+ students for 2011-12.
