Scott Heinig remembered

By April 26, 2011

Nearly 1,000 mourners — many of them young people — filled Freeborn Hall at UC Davis on Tuesday evening to remember the life of Scott Heinig, 22, who died Sunday, April 17. Heinig, a 2006 Davis High School and 2010 UC Davis graduate, suffered a head injury in a fall at a small gathering of friends the prior evening.

Family members, neighbors, friends, baseball teammates, coaches and classmates gathered to share stories of Heinig’s life at the memorial service, dubbed “a remembrance among friends.” A common refrain was the impact Heinig’s “positive mental attitude” and goofy smile had on all whose lives he touched.

Heinig is survived by his parents, Jane and Mark, and his sister Adrienne.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made to the Scott Heinig Youth Baseball Fund, P.O. Box 316, Davis, CA 95617.
