Yolo County coroner’s officials have identified the second person killed in a fiery crash Saturday night near Dunnigan as Cheryl Ann Fortress, 34.
Fortress was a resident of Paradise, not Willows as previously reported, said Mark Persons, a spokesman for the Yolo County Sheriff’s Department, which houses the coroner’s office.
Both Fortress and another driver, 40-year-old Jorge Mora Arias of Woodland, died of multiple blunt-force injuries when their vehicles collided shortly after 11 p.m. on northbound Interstate 5 south of County Road 8.
California Highway Patrol officers said one of the cars, an Oldsmobile Achieva driven by Arias, may have been traveling in the wrong direction with no headlights just prior to the crash with Fortress’ Honda Accord. Both vehicles then caught fire.
Whether alcohol was a factor in the collision remains under investigation, Persons said.
