See sandhill cranes on Yolo Audubon field trip

By From page A4 | October 10, 2013

Community members are invited to join the Yolo Audubon Society on a free field trip Sunday to see sandhill cranes and other wintering birds at the Cosumnes River Preserve and along Woodbridge Road north of Lodi. This trip builds on Yolo Audubon’s recent public meeting featuring a world expert on cranes.

Sandhill cranes spend the winter in our area after migrating from the far north, but participants also should see lots of raptors, waterfowl and shorebirds as well as some riparian woodland birds.

The trip will involve gentle walking and roadside viewing. Participants should bring binoculars, snacks and beverages. Because weather is unpredictable, Yolo Audubon advises dressing in layers.

Trip leader Mary Schiedt will meet participants at 7:45 a.m. Sunday in the park-and-ride lot off Mace Boulevard, northeast of Interstate 80 in Davis. The group should return by mid-afternoon.

For more information, call Schiedt at 530-400-7094 or visit www.yoloaudubon.org.
