Julie Fodor helps 2-year-old Violet put on her kitty-cat mask after a free workshop Sunday at the Davis Art Center led by Heidi Bekebrede and Dianna Craig of Voice of the Wood. In the background is Violet’s sister, Ella, 7. Mask-makers and other revelers are invited to wear their creations to the city of Davis’ celebration of El Dia de los Muertos on Wednesday on the E Street Plaza. The festivities include a community altar to which local residents are invited to contribute offerings like photos, letters, flowers, food and mementos to celebrate the lives of those now gone; a Voice of the Wood performance at 1 p.m.; an El Dia procession at 4:30 p.m. from Tres Hermanas, Second and H streets, to the plaza; and a poetry reading in English and Spanish by Francisco Alarcon at 5:15 p.m. Fred Gladdis/Enterprise photo
