The city of Davis and local community groups are hosting a one-day Community Day of Service on Saturday, April 25, to bring residents and community groups together to engage in meaningful service to the community.
In April 2011, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints’ Woodland stake implemented this program as “Helping Hands,” with great success. Last year, they invited the city of Davis, other faith-based groups, service organizations and other community groups to work together on a day of service. More than 200 volunteers tackled a variety of projects throughout Davis.
This year, projects include work at Birch Lane Elementary School, Da Vinci Charter Academy, Davis Community Meals, Northstar Park and Mace Ranch Park. Volunteers will work for approximately four hours from about 8 a.m. to noon. Following the project work, the volunteers will meet and share a lunch.
“The projects are numerous and diverse, but all work toward the common goal of creating community and a healthier, safer place to live and work,” a news release said.
This is a family-friendly activity; people of all ages are encouraged to attend. Children under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
