Police say an observant resident’s phone call to police Friday morning led to the discovery of six stolen Hondas in a South Davis neighborhood.
Davis police Lt. Paul Doroshov said the unusual find stemmed from a 7 a.m. report from a resident on Cowell Boulevard, who said there was a man parked in a Honda outside the house who appeared to be masturbating.
The caller gave dispatchers the license-plate number, which indicated that the car had been reported stolen elsewhere in Davis.
Responding officers found the Honda a couple of blocks away in the parking lot of the McDonald’s on Chiles Road, Doroshov said. By then, the suspect had fled on foot.
As police searched the area, they came upon five more stolen Honda Accords and Civics, all within the surrounding block, Doroshov said. Two had been reported stolen from Davis, two from Sacramento and one from San Francisco.
“It seems they would be connected,” Doroshov said. “They were all coincidentally dumped on that block, which is unusual.”
Police are still seeking the suspect, described as an African-American male with a light complexion in his late 20s, wearing a gray long-sleeved shirt, red-and-white high-top tennis shoes and a black beanie-style hat. He had light facial hair on his chin and carried a green backpack.
