The public is invited to a program titled “On the Cutting Edge of the Struggle for a Democratic Israel: The Sheikh Jarrah Solidarity Movement,” to be presented at 7 p.m. Sunday at the Davis United Methodist Church, 1620 Anderson Road.
The speaker is Shira Wilkof, co-founder of the movement and a graduate student at UC Berkeley.
The Solidarity Movement, which has grown from weekly protests against evictions of Palestinians in East Jerusalem, is a grassroots organization working toward civil equality within Israel and an end to the Israeli occupation of Palestine.
With hundreds of activists and a record of resistance to perceived violations of democratic values, Solidarity is seen by many as the Israeli left’s new voice.
This program is sponsored by Jewish Peace Alternatives, the Church and Society Committee of the Davis United Methodist Church, and The New Israel Fund. Admission is free. For more information, contact [email protected].
