‘Spin Pop Boom’ will entertain families Sunday

The city of Davis Community Services Department presents “Spin Pop Boom,” an educational science presentation, at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Veterans’ Memorial Theater, 203 E. 14th St. in Davis.

The event features experiments in physics and chemistry, from volcanic reactions to spinning centrifugal-force demonstrations.

Guests also will learn about the physical forces and molecular interactions in what they see every day.¬†They’ll observe how chemical reactions make foam shoot up in the air and how a hand appears to grow. Finally, they’ll watch as a swirl of steam, like a genie, dances out of a bottle.

“All of these demonstrations allow us to quietly slip in some lessons in basic science,” organizers said in a news release.

Tickets are $7 general and $5 for children, available in advance at the Community Services Department, 600 A St., Suite C; The Avid Reader, 607 Second St.; Armadillo Music, 205 F St. (a service charge applies); and the Hallmark Inn, 110 F St. Tickets at the door, for all ages, will be $8.

For more information, call the city at (530) 757-5626 or visit www.cityofdavis.org.
