Start spring cleaning this week at DWR

By
April 5, 2011 |

Local residents can get a huge head start on their spring cleaning at the annual bulky items drop-off days, Thursday through Saturday at Davis Waste Removal. Hours are 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. DWR is at 2727 Second St.

Residents may bring their unwanted bulky items: refrigerators and freezers (limit of two), large appliances, mattresses, furniture, sinks, bathtubs, toilets, wood scraps, scrap metal, and other bulky items for free disposal.

Electronics and other techno trash such as TVs, computer monitors, microwaves, computer components, microwaves, CDs, DVDs, floppy discs, cassette tapes and more also will be accepted for free.

This service is available only for Davis Waste Removal residential customers in Davis, El Macero, Willowbank, North Davis Meadows and the Binning Tract. ID will be checked at the drop-off. Commercial haulers and business materials will not be accepted.

Also not accepted are soil, dirt, concrete, asphalt, tires, hazardous waste and regular household garbage. These items can be brought to the Yolo County Central Landfill on County Road 28H northeast of Davis every day for recycling and disposal. Standard fees will apply.

For more information about the special collection event, visit http://www.davisrecycling.org or call DWR at (530) 756-4646.

Hazardous waste is not accepted at the special collection days, but it can be brought to the free household hazardous waste drop-off events every Friday and Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the landfill. Bring your paints, pesticides, fluorescent light bulbs, household cleaners, expired medicines (no controlled substances), etc., for free and safe disposal.
