Summer camps have literary themes

By From page A7 | May 08, 2013

Kids can enter the worlds of their favorite characters from film and literature at Peregrine School this summer. Children in grades 4-8 can enjoy the Heroes Camp series, four one-week sessions for which there are still a few spots remaining.

Heroes Camp offers lessons in creative writing and media analysis, where students will produce a creative work of their own while discussing a popular piece of literature. Selected works include “Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone,” “The Fellowship of the Ring,” “Star Wars” and “The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe.”

Participants also will enjoy games, cooking, and arts and crafts activities centered around the camp’s theme.

Students’ personal creative work will be presented at the end of each week.

The dates for the camps are July 15-19 (“Harry Potter”), July 22-26 (“Fellowship of the Ring”), July 29-Aug. 2 (“Star Wars”) and Aug. 5-9 (“The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe”). The cost for each session is $250.

All sessions will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Peregrine School’s elementary campus, 1909 Galileo Court, Suite C, in South Davis. Students should bring a lunch each day; balanced snacks will be provided.

To enroll, download a registration form at www.peregrineschool.org or email Mary Lynn at [email protected] to request one. For more information, call 530-753-5500 or email Carrie at [email protected].
