“Stuff in Motion: The Art & Science of Momentum” is the theme of a mini-camp to be offered twice this summer by the Pence Gallery and the Davis Art Center. The camp will run from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. July 22-26 and Aug. 19-23.
Kids will explore the intersection of science and art in conjunction with “Momentum: Art in Action,” the Davis Art Center’s summerlong Discovery Art Exhibit. Mornings are spent at the Art Center, 1919 F St., where students will experiment with a new scientific aspect of momentum each day, then play with how momentum can be expressed in the visual arts, movement/dance, music, sound and design.
After lunch at the Rainbow City playground, students will be chaperoned by bike to the Pence Gallery, 212 D St., to engage in art activities such as kinetic mobiles, figure sculptures, moving self-portraits and more. A guided tour of several public art pieces, with fun activities for kids, is included.
The inspectors are Bekah Shepard at the Art Center and Amy George at the Pence. The cost is $195 for the general public or $185 for members of either the Art Center or the Pence. Registration is being taken online at www.davisartcenter.org or 530-756-4100.
