Japanese residents of Davis and their families and friends invite local residents to stop by their booth Wednesday afternoon at the Davis Farmers Market to buy hand-made Japanese crafts and trinkets. The sales and donations will support emergency relief efforts for the victims of the earthquake and tsunami in northern Japan.
The booth will be open from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the market in Central Park, Fourth and C streets.
“Please visit us to find out what we are doing here in Davis to help deal with this worst-in-a-lifetime natural disaster,” a news release said.
All donations will be given to the Japanese Red Cross Society via the Consulate General of Japan in San Francisco.

See model aircraft soar on Saturday
Have you ever been told that your head is in the clouds? For the members of the Sacramento Valley Soaring Society, it is not only their heads but also their eyes.
The group flies radio-controlled model gliders at the Yolo County Grasslands Park on Mace Boulevard, four miles south of Interstate 80. When you reach the site, go east into the park and follow the road about 200 yards to the 15-acre flying site.
The first spring glider contest of 2011 will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The public is welcome.
