Sutter offers workshop on qigong for hypertension

By From page A4 | July 11, 2013

Sutter Health will offer a three-hour workshop, “Qigong from Hypertension,” from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday, July 28, at the Davis Holistic Health Center, 1403 Fifth St.

Western research has shown that gentle Chinese exercise practices like qigong and tai chi can lower blood pressure. The workshop features a form developed by a Chinese grandmaster in consultation with Chinese physicians. It is specifically designed to help practitioners regulate blood pressure through breathing, movement and stimulation of specific acupuncture points traditionally used for hypertension.

The form is short and accessible; written instructions will be provided to all participants. Both beginning and experienced participants are welcome.

The fee is $60 and space is limited. Instructor Rebecca Pope is a certified master of medical qigong who has trained in both the United States and China. For more information, or to register, contact her at [email protected] or 530-792-7127.
