Three Holy Land documentaries air in October

“Tragedy in the Holy Land — Other Ways to Peace with Justice?” is the theme of a series of documentaries to be shown in Davis during October.

Each show starts at 8:30 p.m. at the Varsity Theatre, 616 Second St. in downtown Davis. Tickets are $10.50 general, $8 for senior citizens and students. Those who buy all three shows get a discount — $24 general and $15 for seniors and students.

The films are:

* “Arna’s Children,” winner of the 2004 International Documentary Festival, on Sunday and Monday, Oct. 2-3;

* “Encounter Point,” best documentary in the 2006 San Francisco International Film Festival, on Sunday and Monday, Oct. 9-10; and

* “Slingshot Hip Hop,” an award winner in the 2008 Sundance Film Festival, on Sunday and Monday, Oct. 16-17.

The film series is a project of the Davis Committee for Palestine Rights, and is dedicated to the memory of Juliano Mer-Khamis.
