Rotary Trivia Challenge benefits nonprofits

By From page A4 | February 21, 2013

Wondering how to put your degree or years of watching MTV to good use?

Use it to help your favorite cause at the fourth annual Davis Sunrise Rotary Community Trivia Challenge from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 28, at International House, 10 College Park.

“Davis quizmaster” Andy Jones, of de Vere’s Irish Pub fame, will emcee the event. The entry fee is $400 per table of eight or $50 per person, and participants are urged to bring extra money to hire a trivia expert to boost their chances at winning.

In keeping with Davis Sunrise Rotary’s guidelines for giving, any project or organization chosen must be nonprofit, non-religious and non-political. The event will feature hearty appetizers.

“This event builds good will and better friendships because it is a lot of fun,” said Chuck Snipes, co-chair of the event. “And, it raises money for worthwhile community programs by creating competition among our area service clubs and nonprofit organizations.”

In 2012, seven nonprofits benefited from the fundraiser, including The Rotary Foundation, Yolo Hospice, the UC Davis Human Rights Initiative, Hillcrest Elementary School PTA, Sunset Neighborhood Beacon Center and UCD’s Clinica Tepati. The remaining funds will go toward Davis Sunrise Rotary’s international service projects, including the UCD Human Rights Initiative.

Groups or individuals are urged to join by signing up with Keith Watenpaugh at [email protected] or 530-574-0815.
