The community is invited to join thousands of costumed UC Davis students expected to participate in the UCD Lipdub video shoot starting at 10 a.m. Saturday.
Lipdubs are a global online phenomenon, with the most popular videos receiving more than 8 million views. UCD will strive for the same YouTube viral fame by lip-syncing to a mash-up of Queen’s “Bicycle Race” and “Don’t Stop Me Now.”
Students and alumni from University of Victoria in British Columbia, Canada lip synced to Train’s “Hey, Soul Sister,” which has captured 1.4 million views since last May.
AggieTV, the student-run video production studio at UCD, is calling for all students, alumni, community members and local businesses to participate. The video must be taped in one take. In between takes, AggieTV is holding contests, and KDVS 90.3FM’s DJs will entertain the crowd.
Student clubs and other organizations will be placed into choreographed sections in the Memorial Union area. Confirmed participants include the Aggie Pack and bicycle formations by the Davis WhymCycle Society.
Not only will the UCD Lipdub facilitate the opportunity for participants to express love and spirit for the university alongside thousands of others, but it also will introduce prospective students to Davis and the university.
Tax-deductible donations are sought from the Davis community to cover pre- and post-production costs. Donations may include food and beverages for the participants and funding for promotional items.
