John Panaretos, former Greek deputy minister of education, lifelong learning and religious affairs, will give a free public talk, “Public Universities at a Time of Austerity and Crisis: Some Lessons from Greece,” at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 7, at the Mondavi Center.
Panaretos will be speaking as part of the Chancellor’s Colloquium Distinguished Speaker Series, hosted by UC Davis Chancellor Linda Katehi. A question-and-answer session will follow.
Panaretos, who served as a Greek deputy minister from 2009 to 2011, is professor of probability and statistics at the Athens University of Economics and Business. He is a member of the Scientific Council of the Greek Parliament, and director of the Institute of Statistical Documentation Research and Analysis in Greece.
He also has served as a visiting professor at UC Berkeley and Stanford University, according to a UCD news release.
