Four local residents will tell their stories of the Great Migration at events Wednesday and Thursday as part of the UC Davis Campus Community Book Project.

Jack Jackson, Rosemary Jones, Richard Patterson and Elaine Patterson are set to speak at from noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesday and from 7 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday. Both events will take place in the Brunelle Performance Hall at Davis High School, 315 W. 14th St.

Nicki King will moderate the discussions, which are free and open to the public.

From 1915 to 1970, the Great Migration changed the landscape of American life as 6 million African-Americans fled the segregated South to Northern cities and the promise of jobs, voting rights and better schools.

Among them was the family of Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter Isabel Wilkerson. She interviewed more than 1,200 people over 15 years and mined previously untapped sources for her book “The Warmth of Other Suns: The Epic Story of America’s Great Migration,” this year’s book project selection.

Wilkerson will speak at the Mondavi Center at 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12. For ticket information, visit mondaviarts.org or call 530-754-2787 .
