Mondavi Center

All wrapped up

By From page A1 | November 09, 2011

It’s not yet the Christmas season but the Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts is wrapped up like a big white package — part of an ongoing project to solve a problem with water leaks during storms that bring heavy rain and wind. Workers are removing an estimated 50,000 exterior sandstone tiles, applying waterproofing and then putting on new tiles, which come from the same quarry in India as the building’s original materials. The projected is expected to last into December. The Mondavi Center’s general contractor, McCarthy Building Companies, is doing the work under a mediated settlement with UC Davis; terms cannot be disclosed because of a confidentiality clause.
