‘Nuns on the Bus’ leader to speak at UCD

Sister Simone Campbell, the executive director of Network, a national Catholic social-justice lobby, is set to deliver a free, public talk titled “We the People: The Challenging Intersection of Law & Politics” at 4 p.m. Tuesday at UC Davis. She will speak at the King Hall School of Law.

In 2010, Campbell wrote the often-cited “nuns’ letter” urging passage of the Affordable Care Act. In 2012, she was helped organized the the “Nuns on the Bus” tour of nine states to oppose the “Ryan Budget,” authored by Rep. Paul Ryan. R-Wis., and approved by the House of Representatives, and she spoke at the Democratic National Convention.

An attorney and poet as well as a religious leader, Campbell has been interviewed on “60 Minutes,” “The Colbert Report” and “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.”
