South Indian classical music vocalist Sikkil Gurucharan will present a lecture-demonstration followed by a concert from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the TCS/Art Annex Building on the UC Davis campus. He will be accompanied by a traditional full live ensemble, featuring Lakshmi Balasubramnya on violin and Vignesh Venkataraman on percussion (mridangam).

The event is sponsored by the UCD Religious Studies Program and is part of its third annual India Studies Lecture series.

Gurucharan “makes a fine ambassador for the rich musical and cultural contributions of India,” a news release said.
