It’s Oaktober at the UC Davis Arboretum, which contains one of the nation’s largest collections of oak trees. In fall, the oaks are ending their cycle, preparing to drop their seeds and hunkering down for the winter.
Visitors to the Arboretum for a free guided tour at 10 a.m. Saturday of the Shields Oak Grove will learn more about the stages in the life of an oak and check out the great diversity of oak tree shapes, sizes, leaves and acorns.
The tour will leave from the Gazebo on Garrod Drive on the UC Davis campus. Free parking is available along Garrod Drive and in Visitor Lot 55.
