Sam Mahood, a senior at UC Davis, was elected to be a district delegate to the Democratic National Convention, which will take place Sept. 3-6 in Charlotte, N.C.
Mahood, 22, is a political science and communication major.
Following a caucus election in Fairfield on April 29, Mahood was one of three men elected to represent California’s new 3rd Congressional District, which includes parts of Yolo, Solano and several other Northern California counties. Four female delegates also were elected.
Mahood was the youngest male delegate, and the only Davis resident, elected in the 3rd Congressional District. He has been active in Democratic Party politics throughout his career at UCD. He served as president of the Davis College Democrats during 2010-11 school year, and was vice president of finance for the statewide California College Democrats organization in 2010-12.
“President Obama’s vision of activism has inspired my entire career at UC Davis,” Mahood said in a news release. “Re-nominating the president and representing Democrats from our district at the national convention will truly be an honor and a dream come true.”
