“Off the Grid,” one of the murals created last summer in the Davis Art Center’s Discovery Art program, has found a permanent home at the California Energy Commission’s offices in Sacramento.
Designed by Rachel Hartsough and based on a photograph by Kathy Keatley Garvey of the UC Davis entomology department, this collaborative artwork is made up of 132 unique sections, each created by a different member of the Davis community.
“Local artists of all ages created their sections using a variety of media, including collage, textile, felt, pencil and oil pastel and more,” said Erie Vitiello, executive director of the Art Center. “The result is a rich tapestry celebrating creativity and highlighting the important role of bees in our environment.”
The mural will be unveiled at an invitation-only reception Monday afternoon at the Energy Commission’s office on the third floor of 1516 Ninth St., between O and P streets, in Sacramento.
