VFW hosts fundraising Sweetheart Breakfast

By From page A4 | February 07, 2013

The Davis Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6949 will host its annual Valentine’s Day Sweetheart Breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday at the Veterans’ Memorial Center, 203 E. 14th St. in Davis.

The menu includes eggs, sausage, pancakes, fruit, milk, juice and coffee. Tickets are $10 for adults and free for children 12 and under.

The breakfast is the post’s biggest fundraiser of the year. Proceeds support the annual Memorial Day ceremony at the Davis Cemetery, Veterans Day activities, scholarships, Buddy Poppies, Yolo Military Families, Blue Star families, flag replacements around Davis and partnerships with UC Davis student veterans.

The post also supports the veterans community with visits to veterans and their dependents in assisted living facilities, nursing homes and hospitals. Post members also host an annual recognition of local firefighters, police officers and teachers, and honor an ROTC Cadet of the Year.

Last year’s successful event was supported by First Northern Bank, the Boy Scouts and Bledsoe Pork.

Tickets are available from any VFW member and at the door on the day of the event.
