Videographers can have some fun with Measure E contest

By From page A12 | October 07, 2012

School finance is a serious issue, but that doesn’t mean supporters of Measure E, Davis’ school parcel tax, can’t have some fun. Campaign organizers announced Friday they’re holding an online contest to find the best Yes on Measure E videos.

“Dan Wolk became the city’s official unofficial troubador with his video of the ‘Davis Song’ written by the very talented Heidi Bekebrede, ” trustee Richard Harris said. “I’m not counting another original blockbuster like that but maybe we can beat Wolk’s almost 2,300 You Tube hits with somebody else’s rendition of the Beatles’ ‘Let it E’ or Queen’s anthems ‘E are the Champions’ or ‘E will E will rock you.’ ”

“Heck, somebody may come up with an E song from this century,” Harris added.

Community members may submit YouTube links for their videos to [email protected]. The deadline is Oct. 15.

Videos should be no longer than three minutes and will be judged by their creativity and their ability to encourage community support for Davis schools and Measure E. The winner will receive a $100 grand prize contributed by an anonymous donor to the Yes on Measure E campaign.

Participants are encouraged to be creative but they must stick to the message of Yes on Measure E, Harris said.
