Warm Remembrance family picnic postponed

By From page A8 | October 13, 2013

A family picnic scheduled for Oct. 20 to celebrate the forthcoming Warm Remembrance Family Play Area project at Redwood Park has been postponed indefinitely, organizers say.

The U.S. Air Force Band, which had been scheduled to provide entertainment at the event, is now unavailable on that date and is further affected by the federal government shutdown, according to organizer Beth Gabor.

Meanwhile, fundraising efforts continue for the park project, which will celebrate the lives of John Riggins and Sabrina Gonsalves, both 18-year-old UC Davis students and recreation leaders for the city’s parks department, who were slain in December 1980. The project’s grand opening is slated for the spring/summer of 2014.

More than $18,000 has been raised to date for the project. Contributions, which are tax-deductible, will be collected through the end of this year. For more information, visit http://city-managers-office.cityofdavis.org/warm-remembrance-project.
