Water vapor saves big bucks

Pablo Orozco, of Design and Project Management at UC Davis, points to and explains a control computer monitor during a Jan. 11 tour of the Central Steam Plant on campus. The plant on Dairy Road features a new condensing economizer that captures vapor from the burning of natural gas for steam to supply energy to Tercero III, the new residence housing complex. PG&E has given the campus a $511,000 one-time rebate for saving 511,000 therms of natural gas annually.
