State Sen. Lois Wolk has been named Legislator of the Year by the California Park and Recreation Society. The award was announced last week.
“Local parks are a vital part of neighborhoods, offering healthy recreational opportunities to all Californians, and the professionals at the Parks and Recreation Society work hard to ensure access with scarce dollars,” Wolk, D-Davis, said in a news release.
The group presented Wolk with its award for her history of support for parks, in addition to her recent introduction of Senate Bill 580. That bill, if passed into law, preserves the integrity of California’s state park system and protects the taxpayers’ investments in parks by prohibiting developments that cost the state valuable parklands.
