Woodland Chamber hosts Farm-City Harvest Luncheon

The 46th annual Farm-City Harvest Luncheon, hosted by the Woodland Chamber of Commerce, will begin at 11:45 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, at the Hotel Woodland, 436 Main St.

Tickets are $32 each and must be purchased by Friday at the Woodland Chamber of Commerce, 307 First St. in Woodland, or by calling 530-662-7327.

Dan Best, a local tomato grower, has been named as this year’s Agribusiness Person of the Year. Best graduated from Woodland High School in 1960. He started farming on his own in 1976 and formed the Dan Best Ranch Inc.

In 2007, he was asked to join the Heidrick Ag History Center and still actively serves on that board. In 2008, he hosted the “Best Show on Tracks,” which was one of the largest displays of antique tractors and thrashing machines from around the world. He has been a Woodland Chamber of Commerce member for 24 years.

Also to be honored will be the outstanding FFA student and scholarship recipient.

The guest speaker will be Val Dolcini, state executive director for the USDA Farm Service Agency. A Davis resident, he is a fifth-generation Californian and Yolo County native.
