By From page A6 | October 17, 2013

Woodland Presbyterian Church invites the community to join its annual Blessing of the Animals on Sunday, Oct. 20.

Families are invited to bring their leashed or caged pets to be blessed during the service, which begins at 9:30 a.m. and features music from students of the Great Day Preschool.

A petting zoo for children and tables staffed by the Yolo County SPCA and other animal rescue groups will be available for visiting before and after the service. The church also will offer cider, doughnuts, and other refreshments to worshipers.

Those who attend are invited to bring an offering of supplies for the local animal shelter. Items needed by the shelter include flat sheets, pillowcases, bleach, liquid laundry soap and dish soap.

The church holds this special service every October in honor of the feast day of St. Francis, the patron saint of animals and the environment.

The service will take place on the church’s patio at 1324 Columbia Drive in west Woodland.
