Woodland man injured in rear-end collision

California Highway Patrol officers said thick morning fog was to blame for a Monday-morning crash that left a Woodland man with major injuries.

Jonathan Doyle Gabbard, 20, was driving a Ford Escort eastbound on County Road 24 west of Woodland at about 8:10 a.m. and, due to the heavy fog, failed to notice that a Dodge Ram truck had stopped in front of him at County Road 97, Officer Bryan Konvalin said.

Gabbard suffered possible head injuries and a broken right ankle in the crash and was taken to the UC Davis Medical Center for treatment, Konvalin said. The Ram’s driver, 31-year-old Eugene Allen Bettencourt of Woodland, was unhurt, though both the truck and the Ford sustained major damage.
