Woodland police find body in truck

By February 12, 2011

Authorities in Woodland are working to identify a man who was found dead inside a truck this afternoon — and may have been there for several days.

Woodland police Sgt. Dan Letamendi said emergency personnel were dispatched at about 1:45 p.m. to the 1400 block of Churchill Downs, an industrial area in northeast Woodland. There, someone had reported seeing the man slumped over inside the cab of a black Dodge pickup. The truck was in a parking lot adjacent to a vacant warehouse.

“Upon their arrival, first responders found the individual who was in fact deceased, and had been for at least a few days,” Letamendi said in a news release. “There were no obvious signs of trauma, weapons or obvious means of death.”

Still, the death is being investigated as suspicious in nature, Letamendi said.

The man’s identity had not been released as of this evening. Yolo County coroner’s officials are expected to conduct an autopsy to determine his cause of death.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Woodland Police Department at (530) 666-2411.
