The Davis Art Center hosted its annual awards reception for the Gerald R. Wooliever Senior Juried Show on April 15. The scholarship is given to graduating Davis high school seniors to support art school expenses, and is named for the late Gerald Wooliever, a former DAC board member, graphic designer and special mentor to young artists.
This year’s recipients were selected by guest judges Sara and Tomas Post, locally and nationally renowned ceramic and mixed-media artists. They are Casey McManis, first place and a $1,000 scholarship; Austin Barden, second place and a $700 scholarship; Cameron Parro, third place and a $500 scholarship; and Laurence Cannings, honorable mention.
For 12 years, the Wooliever family and other volunteers have continued to work on raising funds for the support of the scholarships. Every year at the DAC Holiday Sale, artists donate artworks that are auctioned off in support of the Wooliever Awards. In 2010, the Wooliever “Wall of Art Silent Auction” raised more than $2,000 for the scholarships.
