Workshop set for special education parents

By March 16, 2011

SKIES — which stands for Special Kids in Educational Settings, serving local families — will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the Davis Senior Center, 646 A St.

The meeting will feature a workshop from the Disability Rights Education and Defense Fund, locally sponsored by Warmline Family Resource Center and the Yolo County Special Education Local Plan Area.

Research shows that if educators have the knowledge and expertise to provide appropriate positive behavioral support interventions, behavior challenges are avoided and learning increases, a SKIES spokesman says. Attendees at this workshop will learn about behavior interventions, new discipline provisions under IDEA 2004 legislation, and children’s rights.

Those planning to attend the workshop are asked to RSVP to (530) 759-1127.
